 VOLUNTEER FAQ

2023 FALL VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENT

To be determined.
We always need volunteers to run the league whether it's a coach, team parent coordinator, snack bar volunteer or board member.

2023 SPRING VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENT

Q: What is the volunteer requirement?
A: In order to keep registration fees low amidst rising operating costs, TVLL requires parents to volunteer 8 hours per player or up to 12 hours max per family.

Q: How can I fulfill the volunteer hours requirement?
A: You can choose to do one or more of the following:
  • Manage or coach a team (1 manager and 2 assistant coaches allowed per team, fulfills season requirement)
  • Team parent volunteer (1 team volunteer allowed per team, fulfills season requirement)
  • Scorekeeper/Pitch Counter (fulfills 2 hours per game)
  • Umpire (fulfills 3 hours per game)
  • Field Prep (only applicable to first game of the day - one representative from each team - fulfills 30 mins)
  • Snack Bar volunteer (hours depending on time worked)
  • TVLL board member (fulfills season requirement)
Note: All volunteer opportunities are on a first come, first serve basis. For a description of each volunteer opportunity Click Here.

Q: I am unable to complete the volunteer hours. Is there a volunteer buyout option?
A: Yes. It is $150 fee. To add the fee select “yes” to the volunteer buyout option when you register your player. Full payment is due upon registration.

Q: I plan to volunteer the required hours. Do I have to pay the volunteer buyout fee?
A: If you plan on volunteering during the season, select “no” to the volunteer buyout fee during registration and you will not be charged the $150 fee. In order to keep families accountable, you will be required to submit a $150 written check (no cash or debit/credit card payment accepted) to the volunteer coordinator prior to the start of season, due date to be determined. When the 8 hours per player, or 12 hours per family, of volunteer work is fulfilled and confirmed, your check will be returned.

Q: I paid the volunteer buyout fee during registration but I completed the volunteer hours. Can I get a refund for the volunteer buyout fee?
A: Yes. If you can prove that you worked the 8 hours per player or 12 hours per family you can request reimbursement for the volunteer buyout fee. Submit your hours to your team parent volunteer or the volunteer coordinator and refund for the volunteer buyout fee will be issued to the original form of payment. Not subject to the $25 refund fee.

Q: Can I work part of the volunteer hours and get a partial refund?
A: No. If ALL of the hours are not fulfilled by the end of the season the check will be deposited. Volunteer buyout fee will not be prorated for partial hours completed.

HOW TO VOLUNTEER

Q: How do I volunteer?
A: All volunteers (except youth volunteers) are required to register and complete a background check.

Step 1: Register as a volunteer. (Click Here
Step 2: Select the volunteer type.

Your volunteer preference will be added into our system. A board member will reach out to interested managers and coaches. Managers will select their assistant coaches, team parent volunteer and scorekeepers/pitch counters after the draft. If selected as a team volunteer, your position will be adjusted accordingly in our system and background check requested. When your background check is cleared you will receive a volunteer badge that you will be required to wear when you are on the field.
Umpires will work with UIC. Snack Bar volunteers will work with volunteer coordinator.

Q: I want to volunteer as a scorekeeper/pitch counter but I don't know how to score keep or pitch count?
A: In the spring we will host a Scorekeeping Clinic, date and time TBD. It will teach you all the basics you need in order to be a scorekeeper. For each competitive division game the home team is required to provide the scorekeeper and the visiting team is required to provide the pitch counter. Your team manager or team parent volunteer will sign off on your volunteer hours.

Q: I want to volunteer to be an Umpire. How do I become an Umpire? And do I need my own Umpire gear?
A: In order to be an umpire you will be required to attend the spring Umpire Clinic, date and time TBD. Upon successful completion of the clinic and background check you will work with UIC for scheduling. UIC will sign off on your volunteer hours based on games umped. TVLL will provide protective gear and polo shirt for each ump. Umpires will need to provide their own dark grey, blue or black pants.

Q: How do I join the TVLL Board of Directors?
A: First check if there are any board openings and read the description of responsibilities: Click Here. Attend a board meeting, explain why you are interested in the position and why you are a good fit for that position. The current board will conduct a blind vote to vote-in potential candidates.

Q: Do I need to be a parent of a player in order to volunteer?
A: No. We welcome any and all volunteers. If you love baseball and want to give back to the community please consider volunteering. We just require volunteer registration and background check.

Q: I am in high school and need service hours for my club. Can I volunteer?
A: Yes. We always need Snack Bar Volunteers. Please contact our volunteer coordinator for scheduling. Youth volunteers are not subject to the background check requirement.
