"Baseball is 90% mental, and the other half is physical." (Yogi Berra)
*Make sure you have all your volunteer requirements*
Managers
Managers have more responsibilities than coaches and are expected to model good sportsmanship and integrity. Their responsibilities include:
- Team management: Assessing players, drafting teams, selecting coaches, and setting practice schedules.
- Team communication: Keeping players, parents, and league officials informed about rules, schedules, and events.
- Team preparation: Ensuring the field is ready for games and practices, and returning equipment after games.
- Team experience: Ensuring players have fun, learn, and have equal opportunities to participate.
- Team behavior: Encouraging good sportsmanship and adherence to the Code of Conduct, regardless of winning or losing.
- Team delegation: Seeking help when needed and assigning tasks to the best-suited individuals.
Coaches
Coaches work with managers to enforce rules and create a positive team environment. Their responsibilities include:
- Team development: Helping players improve skills and develop traits like honesty, respect, and responsibility.
- Team participation: Assisting managers at practices and games, and volunteering during the season.
- Team knowledge: Staying informed on league and district rules by attending clinics and reviewing the Official Regulations.
Both managers and coaches should be patient and understanding, recognizing that they are helping shape children's physical, mental, and emotional development.
